The Omani electric car now lists three trims and a 500 km figure — the 2022 launch numbers are gone

MAYS sells Alive, Alive X and Alive X+ from RO 10,900 on a stated 500 km range. The launch reports printed 4.9 seconds and 280 km/h, and nobody has corrected them.

The maker's own site now prices the Alive at RO 10,900, the Alive X at RO 11,900 and the Alive X+ at RO 13,500, and puts a 500 km range against all three, with a six-year vehicle warranty and eight years on the battery. The site adds its own disclaimer to the range figure — speed, weather, load, road conditions and air-conditioning — and quotes 30 minutes to 80 per cent on Type 2 and CCS fast charging.

None of those numbers is a test result. They are the company's figures, published on the page where the car is sold, and they are not the numbers the company launched on.

When Times of Oman and Oman Observer covered the launch at Al Bustan Palace in February 2022, the headline figure was 4.9 seconds to 100 km/h and a top speed of 280 km/h. The car then was a sedan. The car now is an SUV called Alive, and the maker quotes it at roughly 7 seconds and above 170 km/h. The two pitches are not comparable — a sedan and an SUV rarely are — but the launch figure was never corrected, and it no longer appears on the site that sells the car.

The part that can be checked

Service is the line worth counting, because a network either exists or it does not. MAYS services the cars through Precision Tune Auto Care and claims more than 52 locations around the Sultanate, with collection from a home or office and the work returned in 24 to 48 hours. A wall charger and a portable socket charger come with the car. The franchise chain's own footprint can be checked against the claim; the 52 figure is the company's.
